Answers to common questions
We’ve compiled a list of answers to common questions.
- Washing Facilities
There is a coin operated washing machine and dryer on the site to the right of the reception in the shed past the chicken run next to the toilet and shower block. It is for all guests and uses £1 & £2 coins only to operate. A 1 hour wash cycle costs £4.
- Do you take a security deposit?
Yes, we will contact up to a month before your booking to arrange payment of a £100 security deposit. We only subtract funds from the deposit if: the property is damaged or anything is stolen; extreme cleaning or extra cleaning of the hot tub is required after check-out; additional services are requested including dressing gown hire, additional linen and towels etc. The deposit will be returned to you (minus any charges) within a week of check out.
- What are check in/ check out times?
To allow time for us to prepare your accommodation thoroughly, check in for lodges, houses and pods is from 4pm and check out is at 10am.
Check in times for the campsite are from 3.30pm and check out is 10.30am. If you are expecting to arrive later than 6pm or you are delayed please telephone 07971 574375 to let us know.
- Can you accommodate larger parties?
Our properties sleep a maximum of 6 but If you would like to make a booking for a larger group, please call us on 01353 860428 or email us at email@example.com and we will be able to help you to book multiple properties to suit your group.
- Do I need to bring towels and bedding?
No, towels and bedding are supplied. If you require the use of the sofa bed in your property for your stay please let us know in advance and we will supply the additional bedding. Dressing gowns can also be hired for £3.
- Is there wifi at Head Fen Country Retreat?
Yes, each property has its own wifi.
- How far is Head Fen Country Retreat from the nearest City?
We’re just a 10 minute drive from Ely, 30 minute drive from Cambridge and an hour drive from Norwich. If you want to travel further, Lincoln, Colchester and Leicester can all be reached in under two hours.
- How far is the nearest pub or restaurant?
Ely, only a ten minute drive away is a popular location for diners and drinkers with it’s quaint and historic pubs and excellent restaurants. The nearby village of Little Downham has two excellent pubs and further afield, The Lamb and Flag at Welney is popular with walkers and diners alike. If you are braving the walk you’d be advised to bring a torch for the walk home – there is very little light pollution and it can get very dark!
- Where is the nearest supermarket?
There is a small Nisa in Little Downham for milk etc. But for larger supermarkets, Ely is only a 10 minute drive from Head Fen Country Retreat. In Ely you will find Sainsburys, Tesco, Waitrose and Aldi as well as plenty of smaller shops. There is a market in Ely on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. On Saturdays this is a craft, food & vintage market with the exception of the 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month when a Farmers’ Market takes place.
- Is a hairdryer provided?
Yes, there is a hairdryer in every property.
- Are pets allowed?
We do now accept dogs, a maximum of 2 medium sized dogs and in selected lodges, Cathedral View 2, Egret Park 2 and Little Egret 2.
- Are you able to accomodate people with disabilities?
All of our lodges can accomodate people with disabilities.
